Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is a transformative procedure that removes excess abdominal skin and fat while simultaneously tightening the underlying abdominal muscles. It is particularly effective for patients who have experienced significant changes in abdominal shape due to pregnancy, massive weight loss, or aging — changes that no amount of exercise can fully correct.
A full abdominoplasty addresses both upper and lower abdominal areas, involving muscle tightening and repositioning of the navel. A mini abdominoplasty targets only the lower abdomen below the navel with a shorter scar and no navel repositioning — suitable for patients with more limited concerns. The appropriate approach is determined during consultation.
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and takes 2–4 hours depending on the extent of surgery. The incision is placed low on the abdomen, within the bikini line, minimizing scar visibility. Liposuction is often combined to further refine the waistline.
Patients typically stay one night in the clinic and return home the following day. An abdominal binder is worn for 6 weeks. Most patients return to non-strenuous work within 2–3 weeks. Final abdominoplasty results — a dramatically flatter, firmer abdomen — are visible within 3–6 months and long-lasting.
