The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a two-stage body contouring procedure that harvests fat from areas of excess (such as the abdomen, flanks, and thighs) and uses it to augment and reshape the buttocks. The result is a simultaneous slimming of the donor areas and an enhancement of the buttock volume and shape — using entirely the patient's own natural fat, with no implants required.
The procedure consists of two main steps:
Fat transfer buttock augmentation offers several advantages over silicone gluteal implants: the results look and feel completely natural, there is no foreign material placed in the body, and the simultaneous liposuction creates additional body contouring benefits. The primary limitation is that only a modest amount of fat can be safely transferred (typically 300–600 cc per side).
Recovery from BBL surgery requires avoiding direct pressure on the buttocks for 6–8 weeks. A special BBL pillow is used when sitting. Compression garments are worn continuously for 6 weeks. Approximately 60–70% of transferred fat survives permanently; final results become visible within 6 months. The BBL is performed under general anesthesia and takes 2–4 hours.
